Owl Box No. 4 with Protective Front Panel
Owl Box Nr. 4 completely with Protective Front Panel (coated metal guard) to deter Martens. The wood-concrete front panel has additional holes in which the guard is screw fixed. The front panel of the box can be removed for inspection and cleaning purposes. Birds can be encouraged to use the box if a thick layer of wood shavings or sawdust is spread over the recess in the floor.

Tengmalm's Owls, Stock Doves, Jackdaws, Pygmy Owls and Hoopoes, occasionally Squirrels.
Black, Green and Grey Woodpeckers will sometimes spend the night in these boxes too.

Owl boxes are installed in parks and forests, not only to promote the diversity of species but also as a means of controlling the Mouse population. The Owl Boxes No. 4 and No. 5 are intended as a substitute for the large holes made by woodpeckers in old trees. These are often taken over by other types of animals, such as Squirrels. Woodpeckers occasionally use these nest boxes as an overnight roost, but each year they will drill out a new hole in a tree to lay their eggs and raise their young.
